Overview
Potassium oleate (CAS 143-18-0 ), also sold under the trade names Trenamine D-200 and Trenamine D-201, is the potassium salt of oleic acid functioning as a surfactant, emulsifier, and soap base across multiple industrial sectors.
Its strong surface-active character makes it a preferred choice in formulations requiring effective emulsification, cleaning, or lubrication in a single ingredient. In metalworking and industrial lubrication, it acts as an emulsifier.
It is used in water-based cutting fluids and rust-preventive formulations, helping stabilize oil-in-water systems under process conditions. Personal care manufacturers incorporate it into liquid soaps, shaving preparations, and cleansing creams.
In these applications, it provides both lather and emulsification. Textile and leather processors use it as a scouring and softening agent, removing oils and preparing fiber surfaces for dyeing or finishing.
In food-grade applications, it functions as an emulsifier and pH buffer in select processed food systems. Potassium oleate is supplied as a viscous liquid or paste, with concentration typically ranging from 30% to 40% active content.
While aqueous solutions are standard, higher-purity grades are available. Technical grade is the most common supply form for industrial buyers. Food-grade material meeting FCC specifications is available for manufacturers.
This ensures compliance with food-contact or food-use standards. The material is valued for its versatility and effectiveness as a primary emulsifying agent in diverse chemical manufacturing processes.
