Steareth-2

CAS: 16057-43-5

Overview

Steareth-2 (CAS 16057-43-5 ), also marketed as Lipocol S-2 and Procol SA-2, is a low-ethoxylated fatty alcohol ether used as a co-emulsifier and consistency agent across personal care and industrial formulations.

With an HLB value in the low range, it favors water-in-oil emulsion systems and contributes to rheology control in semi-solid products. In personal care, it is used alongside higher-ethoxylate counterparts to build stable creams.

These formulations allow for adjusting emulsion texture and viscosity without heavy wax-like drag. Textile and leather processing formulators incorporate it as a carrier and dispersing aid in fiber lubricants and finishing baths.

In coatings and adhesive systems, it functions as an emulsifier for resin dispersions and improves compatibility between aqueous and oily components. It also appears in sealant and elastomer formulations where controlled wetting is required.

The material is particularly effective for the dispersion of fillers in industrial settings. It is supplied as a waxy solid or flake at ambient temperature, typically transitioning to a pourable liquid when heated.

It is available in cosmetic-grade and technical-grade specifications to suit both personal care and industrial procurement requirements. Packaging ranges from drums to bulk quantities depending on application volume.
