Mepiquat chloride

Mepiquat chloride (CAS 24307-26-4 ), also known commercially as BAS-083, is a plant growth regulator used primarily in cotton production to control excessive vegetative growth. By inhibiting gibberellin biosynthesis, it compacts plant architecture.

This chemical redirects energy toward boll development rather than canopy expansion. In cotton cultivation, it is applied as a foliar treatment to shorten internode length, reduce lodging risk, and improve harvestability.

This is particularly effective in high-yield, irrigated production systems. It is also used in wheat and barley to reduce stem elongation and prevent lodging under high-nitrogen fertility programs for modern agriculture.

Formulators incorporate it as the active ingredient in liquid suspension concentrates and soluble concentrate formulations for commercial herbicide and PGR products. Some programs combine it with cyclanilide or other actives.

These combinations broaden its agronomic effect on cotton maturity and fiber quality. The material is supplied as a technical-grade solid or as pre-formulated aqueous concentrates for various industrial applications.

Active ingredient concentrations typically range from 37% to 42% in commercial liquid products. Technical material is available for formulators requiring custom concentration or combination products for specific needs.
