Zinc formaldehyde sulfoxylate ( CAS 24887-06-7 ), also known as zinc bis(hydroxymethanesulphinate), is an inorganic reducing salt used industrially as a bleaching and stripping agent. It functions by releasing active reducing species under heat or alkaline conditions.

This chemical enables controlled decolorization and whitening in various wet processing operations. In textile dyeing and finishing, it serves as a discharge agent to selectively remove or reduce dye from fabric, enabling resist and discharge printing effects.

Leather processing operations use it to bleach hides and control oxidative discoloration during tanning. Pulp and paper manufacturers apply it to brighten mechanical pulps and reduce yellowing in finished paper grades to improve final product quality.
