Allura Red AC

CAS: 25956-17-6

Overview

Allura Red AC (CAS 25956-17-6 ), also known as E129 and FD&C Red No. 40, is a synthetic azo dye used to impart a bright red to orange-red color across food, cosmetic, and industrial applications.

It is one of the most commercially prevalent red colorants approved for use in multiple regulatory jurisdictions. In food and beverage manufacturing, it colors confectionery, soft drinks, dairy products, and processed snacks.

The dye provides consistent red or orange-red shades across various formulations. Personal care formulators use it in lipsticks, shampoos, and bath products where stable, vivid red coloration is required for consumer appeal.

In printing and packaging, it functions as a dye component in inks where strong red hue intensity and batch consistency are critical. Textile and leather processors apply it to achieve uniform red dyeing.

The product is effective on synthetic and blended fiber substrates for industrial use. Allura Red AC is supplied as a fine red powder or granules, available in food-grade specifications including FCC and E129-compliant grades.

These grades meet EU and US regulatory standards, alongside technical-grade material for non-food industrial applications. Purity levels for food-grade material are typically specified at a minimum of 85% dye content.
