Stannous oxalate

CAS: 814-94-8

Overview

Stannous oxalate (CAS 814-94-8 ), also known as tin oxalate, is a tin(II) salt used primarily as a catalyst and catalyst precursor in polymer synthesis and specialty chemical manufacturing.

It enables controlled reaction pathways in esterification and polycondensation processes where precise tin-based catalysis is required. In plastics and polymer production, it catalyzes polycondensation reactions.

This is particularly useful in the manufacture of polyesters and biodegradable polymers such as polylactic acid (PLA). Personal care formulators use it as a stabilizing and chelating agent.

It helps to sequester metal ions that would otherwise degrade sensitive formulations. In pharmaceutical and biotech applications, it functions as a tin source in synthesis intermediates.

It is also used in radiolabeling processes where controlled tin(II) chemistry is critical. Water treatment applications leverage its chelation activity to manage trace metal interference.

This management is vital in treatment chemical formulations. Stannous oxalate is supplied as a white to off-white crystalline powder available in technical and high-purity grades.

Pharmaceutical-grade material is produced to meet the quality requirements of regulated synthesis applications. Packaging ranges from laboratory-scale quantities to bulk industrial supply.

The availability depends on the specific grade and end-use specification required by the client. This ensures the material meets the necessary standards for industrial or lab use.
