Gum arabic

CAS: 9000-01-5

Overview

Gum arabic (CAS 9000-01-5 ), also traded as gum acacia and E414 , is a natural exudate harvested from Acacia trees and refined for use across food, pharmaceutical, and industrial markets.

It functions as an emulsifier, stabilizer, and film-former, enabling manufacturers to control texture, dispersion, and moisture retention in finished products. In food and beverage production, it is used to encapsulate flavors.

The additive stabilizes emulsions in soft drinks, confectionery coatings, and powdered flavor systems. Pharmaceutical manufacturers use it as a binder and suspending agent in tablet formulations and oral suspensions.

Consistent viscosity and compatibility with active ingredients are critical in these medical applications. Personal care formulators incorporate it into setting sprays, serums, and hair fixatives for its film-forming properties.

In printing and lithography, it protects plate surfaces and acts as a desensitizing agent during offset printing processes. The material is supplied as a spray-dried powder, roller-dried flakes, or as a liquid solution.

Powder is the dominant commercial form for most industrial buyers. Recognized grades include food-grade ( FCC ), USP , and BP / Ph.Eur. specifications to meet regulatory requirements across different end markets.

Spray-dried grades are available in varying mesh sizes to suit encapsulation, tableting, or direct dispersion applications. These standards ensure the material meets the rigorous demands of global supply chains.
