Polyvinyl acetate

CAS: 9003-20-7

Overview

Polyvinyl acetate ( CAS 9003-20-7 ), commonly abbreviated as PVAc and listed as E1519 in food contact applications, is a synthetic polymer produced by the emulsion or bulk polymerization of vinyl acetate monomer.

It functions as a film-forming binder and adhesive base across a broad range of industrial and consumer formulations. In woodworking and construction, PVAc emulsions are the primary binder in white wood glues.

These interior assembly adhesives offer strong initial tack and clean-up ease. Paper and packaging converters use it as a laminating adhesive and coating binder, where its film clarity and bond strength suit multi-layer board constructions.

Textile and nonwoven manufacturers apply PVAc dispersions as fabric stiffeners and fiber-bonding agents in finishing operations. In printing, it functions as a pigment binder in water-based inks and overprint varnishes.

This improves adhesion to paper and board substrates. Polyvinyl acetate is supplied primarily as aqueous emulsion, typically at 50–55% solids content, and in solid form as beads or powder for solvent-based applications.

Standard grades include general-purpose, high-viscosity, and plasticized variants tailored for adhesive or coating end uses. Technical and food-contact grades are available for various industrial requirements.

Food-contact compliance is governed by regional regulations including EU and FDA frameworks. Our material meets rigorous industry specifications to ensure consistent performance across all manufacturing sectors.
