Overview
Potassium isopentyl dithiocarbonate (CAS 928-70-1 ) is a xanthate-class collector used in the froth flotation of sulfide ores. It selectively adsorbs onto mineral surfaces, enabling the separation and concentration of target metal sulfides from gangue material.
In copper, lead, and zinc sulfide flotation, it promotes selective mineral attachment to air bubbles, improving concentrate grade and recovery rates. Processing operations targeting polymetallic ores use it where longer-chain xanthates are needed.
These longer chains enhance collector strength on less-reactive sulfide surfaces during mineral processing circuits. It is also evaluated in gold-bearing sulfide circuits, where effective collector performance directly impacts downstream leaching and smelting economics.
Blending with shorter-chain xanthates or other collector types allows flotation plant operators to fine-tune selectivity against iron sulfide gangue minerals such as pyrite. This flexibility is essential for optimizing recovery in complex ore bodies.
Potassium isopentyl dithiocarbonate is supplied as an aqueous solution or as a solid, depending on the producer and regional supply chain. Technical grade is the standard commercial specification for mineral processing applications.
Packaging typically follows bulk industrial formats suited to mine-site consumption, including drums and intermediate bulk containers. This ensures safe handling and efficient transport to remote mining operations globally.
