Dimethylthiotoluenediamine

CAS: 106264-79-3

Overview

Dimethylthiotoluenediamine , commercially known as DMTDA, is an aromatic diamine curative used primarily in polyurethane and polyurea elastomer systems. It functions as a chain extender and crosslinker, controlling the mechanical properties and cure profile of finished elastomeric components.

In cast polyurethane elastomers, DMTDA reacts with isocyanate-terminated prepolymers to produce parts requiring high load-bearing capacity and abrasion resistance. These applications include industrial wheels, rollers, and mining screens.

Polyurea coating systems for automotive underbody protection, pipeline linings, and industrial flooring rely on this chemical to achieve controlled gel times and improved flexibility. It is a critical component for durable surface protection.

In aerospace and defense applications, it is used in structural adhesives and composite matrix systems where precise cure kinetics are critical to part performance. This ensures the integrity of high-stress components.

Lubricant additive formulations also incorporate CAS 106264-79-3 as an antioxidant and metal deactivator component in gear oils and hydraulic fluids. This versatility makes it valuable across multiple industrial sectors.

DMTDA is supplied as a liquid at ambient temperature, with a characteristic amber to brown color. Standard commercial grades meet technical and industrial specifications, with purity typically reported at 95% or higher.

The product is available in drums and IBC totes, with bulk quantities accessible through established chemical distributors. Proper handling and storage are required to maintain the chemical stability and performance of the material.
