Tetrachloroethylene

CAS: 127-18-4

Overview

Tetrachloroethylene (CAS 127-18-4 ), commonly known as perc or PCE, is a chlorinated solvent used across industrial cleaning, degreasing, and chemical processing operations.

Its high solvency power and chemical stability make it a preferred carrier and process solvent where aqueous alternatives are impractical for specific manufacturing workflows.

In textile finishing and fabric care, perc is the dominant solvent in commercial dry-cleaning operations, effectively removing oils, greases, and soils without damaging delicate fibers.

Leather processing facilities use it for degreasing hides prior to tanning, ensuring uniform dye uptake and surface quality across the entire production batch of materials.

In the plastics and polymers sector, PCE functions as a reaction medium and carrier solvent in the production of fluoropolymers, particularly as a precursor in synthesis.

Printing and packaging operations use it as a cleaning solvent for press components and as a degreasing agent for metal substrates ahead of coating or lamination processes.

Tetrachloroethylene is supplied as a clear liquid in bulk tankers, ISO containers, and drums. Technical grade is the standard commercial specification for industrial solvent applications.

Stabilized grades are available for applications requiring extended shelf life and compatibility with sensitive process equipment used in high-precision chemical manufacturing.
