Overview
Chloramine-T (CAS 127-65-1 ), also known as Sodium Chloramine T, is an active chlorine-releasing compound used across food processing, pharmaceutical, and water treatment industries as a disinfectant and biocide.
Its controlled chlorine release makes it effective against a broad spectrum of bacteria, fungi, and viruses in both surface sanitation and solution-based applications. In food processing and dairy facilities, it is used as a sanitizing agent.
It is ideal for equipment, pipelines, and contact surfaces where residue control and rinse-down compliance are critical. Pharmaceutical manufacturers use it to disinfect production environments and as an intermediate in synthesis.
It is also used for synthesizing labeled compounds for analytical and research applications. In water treatment, it functions as a disinfection agent for potable water systems and industrial process water systems.
The compound offers more stable chlorine delivery than hypochlorite solutions. Personal care formulators incorporate it into antiseptic preparations and wound-cleansing products where sustained antimicrobial activity is required.
Chloramine-T is supplied as a white to off-white crystalline powder or granules. Standard commercial grades include technical grade and pharmaceutical-grade material meeting BP and Ph. Eur. specifications.
Packaging typically ranges from laboratory-scale quantities to bulk industrial supply. The trihydrate form is the most commonly traded specification for various industrial and laboratory applications worldwide.
