Kaolin (CAS 1332-58-7 ), also known commercially as Bolus alba, is a naturally occurring hydrated aluminum silicate clay mineral processed for industrial use. It functions as a functional filler, coating pigment, and rheology modifier across a broad range of manufacturing sectors.

In pulp and paper manufacturing, kaolin is applied as a coating pigment and filler to improve printability, brightness, and surface smoothness of finished sheets. Rubber compounders incorporate it as a reinforcing filler in tire sidewalls and molded goods.

Personal care formulators use it as an absorbent and texture-modifying agent in face masks, dry shampoos, and pressed powders. In construction materials, kaolin serves as a functional extender in paints and ceramic bodies.

It is also used in cement-based products to control viscosity and reduce raw material costs. Kaolin is supplied as a dry powder in both calcined and water-washed grades, with calcined forms offering higher brightness for coatings.
