Overview
Aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (CAS 13822-56-5 ), commonly abbreviated as APTMS, is an aminosilane coupling agent used to chemically bridge inorganic substrates and organic polymer matrices.
By bonding to both mineral surfaces and resin systems, it improves adhesion, durability, and interfacial compatibility across a broad range of industrial formulations.
In adhesives, sealants, and coatings, APTMS functions as a primer or adhesion promoter on glass, metal, and mineral substrates, significantly improving bond strength and moisture resistance.
Epoxy and polyurethane formulators incorporate it as a crosslinker or curing co-agent to enhance mechanical performance in composite and encapsulation systems.
In electronics manufacturing, it is applied to surface-treat fillers and substrates used in printed circuit boards and semiconductor encapsulants for better stability.
The personal care and automotive sectors use APTMS to functionalize silica and other mineral particles, improving their dispersion and compatibility within formulated products.
APTMS is supplied as a clear liquid, typically at 97–99% purity for industrial and specialty applications. It is available in technical grade for standard coupling uses.
Higher-purity electronic grades are offered for semiconductor and precision coating applications. Packaging ranges from small drums to IBC containers depending on volume requirements.
