Overview
Lauryl methacrylate (CAS 142-90-5 ), also known as dodecyl methacrylate and abbreviated as LMA, is a long-chain alkyl ester monomer used to build polymer systems requiring flexibility and hydrophobicity.
It functions as a reactive building block in copolymer synthesis across lubricant, personal care, and polymer manufacturing sectors. It is valued for its ability to provide low glass transition temperatures.
In lubricant additive manufacturing, LMA is copolymerized to produce viscosity index improvers and pour point depressants. These additives keep engine and industrial oils performing across wide temperature ranges.
Personal care formulators incorporate LMA-based polymers into film-forming agents for hair fixatives and skin adhesives. It is also used in water-resistant cosmetic coatings for improved durability.
In plastics and polymer production, it is used to modify acrylic copolymers, improving flexibility and surface properties. This makes it ideal for high-performance coatings, adhesives, and sealants.
Its long alkyl chain also makes it suitable for producing oil-soluble polymers used in metalworking fluid formulations. Lauryl methacrylate is supplied as a clear to slightly yellow liquid for industrial use.
The product is typically stabilized with a polymerization inhibitor such as MEHQ for safe handling and storage. It is available in technical and industrial grades, with purity levels commonly at 98% or higher.
Bulk quantities are offered in drums and IBC totes, with tanker supply available for large-volume industrial buyers. Our supply chain ensures consistent quality and reliable delivery for all manufacturing needs.
