Overview
O-cresyl glycidyl ether (CAS 2210-79-9 ), also identified commercially as o-CGE, is a reactive epoxy monomer used to modify and cure polymer systems. It functions as a reactive diluent, reducing viscosity in epoxy formulations while participating in the curing reaction.
By becoming part of the final polymer network, it ensures structural integrity. In epoxy coatings for automotive and aerospace components, o-CGE lowers system viscosity without the performance losses associated with non-reactive diluents.
This chemical enables better substrate penetration and film formation in demanding environments. Structural adhesives and sealants incorporate it to improve flexibility and processability in high-performance bonding applications.
Formulators in the electrical and industrial coatings sectors use it as a plasticizing co-monomer to reduce brittleness in cured epoxy systems. It also serves as a building block in specialty polymer synthesis.
This is particularly useful where controlled crosslink density and chain flexibility are required. O-cresyl glycidyl ether is supplied as a liquid at ambient temperature, suitable for direct blending into epoxy resin systems.
It is available in technical grade, with purity specifications typically confirmed by epoxide equivalent weight and GC purity. Packaging options generally include drums and IBC containers for industrial volumes.
