Overview
1,4-Butanediol diglycidyl ether (CAS 2425-79-8 ), commonly abbreviated as BDDGE, is a bifunctional epoxy reactive diluent and crosslinker used across adhesive, coating, and polymer systems.
It reduces viscosity in epoxy formulations while contributing to the final crosslink density of the cured network. In epoxy coatings and flooring systems, BDDGE lowers formulation viscosity without sacrificing cure performance.
This allows for higher filler loading and improved substrate wetting during application. Adhesive and sealant manufacturers use it as a reactive diluent to extend pot life and improve flexibility in cured bond lines.
In polymer and elastomer production, it functions as a crosslinking agent for hydroxyl- or amine-terminated systems. This includes applications in hydrogels and various surface-modified materials for industrial use.
Printing ink formulators incorporate BDDGE to adjust flow properties in UV-curable and solvent-based systems. This ensures the maintenance of film integrity and durability after the curing process is complete.
BDDGE is supplied as a clear to slightly yellow liquid for industrial applications. Standard commercial grades are available at purities of 95% and above to meet specific manufacturing requirements.
Technical and high-purity grades are offered depending on the specific end-use requirements of the client. Packaging typically ranges from drums to IBC containers for bulk industrial supply and logistics.
