Overview
Octhilinone (CAS 26530-20-1 ), commonly abbreviated as OIT and also known as 2-Octyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one, is a broad-spectrum biocide used to prevent microbial degradation.
Its activity targets bacteria, fungi, and algae, making it a standard preservation choice across coatings, personal care, and industrial process fluids for long-term stability.
In architectural and industrial coatings, OIT is incorporated as a dry-film preservative to protect cured paint surfaces from fungal and algal growth over an extended service life.
