Ammonium polyacrylate

CAS: 9003-03-6

Overview

Ammonium polyacrylate (CAS 9003-03-6 ), also known commercially as Latekoll AS, is a water-soluble anionic polymer used across industrial processing as a dispersant, thickener, and flocculant.

It controls particle suspension, modifies flow behavior, and prevents scale formation in aqueous systems. In water treatment, it functions as a flocculant and scale inhibitor in cooling water circuits.

It is also utilized in industrial effluent systems and municipal processing. Building and construction formulators incorporate it into cement slurries and tile adhesives to improve workability.

This chemical helps reduce water demand without sacrificing adhesion. Home care and industrial cleaning products use it as a sequestrant to chelate calcium and magnesium ions.

This prevents redeposition of soils onto surfaces during cleaning. In textile and paper processing, it acts as a dispersant for pigments and fillers, improving coating uniformity and substrate coverage.

Ammonium polyacrylate is supplied primarily as an aqueous solution, with active content typically ranging from 25% to 45%. Technical grade is the standard offering for industrial water treatment.

Higher-purity grades are available for specialty formulations. Molecular weight variants are commercially significant, as low, medium, and high-molecular-weight grades perform differently.

These variations allow for specific performance across dispersancy, thickening, and flocculation functions. The material is essential for maintaining stability in complex chemical formulations.
