Dimethicone

CAS: 9006-65-9

Overview

Dimethicone (CAS 9006-65-9 ), also supplied as Dimethicone 350 and approved as food-contact additive E1049 , is a polydimethylsiloxane fluid used across personal care, industrial coatings, and rubber processing.

It functions as a silicone-based lubricant, foam suppressant, and conditioning agent in a broad range of formulations. In personal care, it is the primary slip and conditioning agent in hair care, skin creams, and color cosmetics.

This material provides a smooth skin feel without occlusive heaviness. Coatings and release agent formulators use it to control surface tension and prevent foam buildup in industrial paint systems and polymer processing lines.

Textile and leather finishers apply it to improve fabric softness, water repellency, and surface uniformity in finishing baths. In rubber compounding and tire manufacturing, it acts as a processing lubricant.

It serves as a mold release component, reducing surface friction during vulcanization. Dimethicone is supplied as a clear, colorless liquid in a range of viscosity grades, commonly from 5 cSt to 60,000 cSt.

The 350 cSt variant is the most commercially traded specification. Grades conforming to USP , BP , and Ph.Eur. standards are available for pharmaceutical and personal care applications.

Technical-grade material is standard for industrial coatings, rubber, and textile end uses. This versatile silicone fluid ensures high performance and consistency across diverse manufacturing sectors and chemical formulations.
