2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid

CAS: 94-75-7

Overview

2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (CAS 94-75-7 ), commonly known as 2,4-D, is a systemic herbicide active ingredient used to selectively control broadleaf weeds in agricultural and turf settings.

It acts by mimicking plant growth hormones, causing uncontrolled growth in target weeds while leaving grasses largely unaffected. Formulators and agrochemical manufacturers source the acid form as the basis for a broad range of herbicide end-products.

As a herbicide active ingredient, 2,4-D is formulated into amine salts, ester derivatives, and emulsifiable concentrates for use in cereal crops, pastureland, and corn production.

Turf management products for golf courses, lawns, and roadside vegetation control rely on 2,4-D-based formulations to suppress dandelions, clover, and other broadleaf species.

Industrial vegetation management programs, including utility rights-of-way and railway corridors, use high-concentration formulations derived from this acid.

It also functions as a biocidal component in certain industrial cleaning and weed control products where selective plant elimination is required for maintenance.

2,4-D acid is supplied as a white to off-white crystalline powder. Technical grade is the standard commercial form, with purity levels typically at 96% or higher per FAO/WHO specifications.

Bulk supply is available in fiber drums or multiwall bags, with formulation-grade material offered to agrochemical manufacturers and toll formulators for large-scale production.
