p-toluidine

CAS: 106-49-0

Overview

p-Toluidine (CAS 106-49-0 ), also known as p-tolylamine and 4-toluidine, is an aromatic amine used as a chemical intermediate in the synthesis of dyes, pigments, and specialty compounds.

It functions primarily as a building block and curing agent across several manufacturing industries. In dye and pigment manufacturing, it is a key intermediate for azo dyes used in textile dyeing and leather finishing.

Rubber and elastomer producers use it as a curing and cross-linking agent to control vulcanization characteristics in finished compounds. In printing inks and packaging coatings, it contributes to the synthesis of colorants.

These colorants require specific hue and fastness properties for high-performance applications. Personal care and cosmetic formulators source it as a precursor in the production of hair dye intermediates.

It is also utilized in oxidative colorant systems for professional salon products. The material is supplied as a white to pale yellow crystalline solid or low-melting flake for industrial handling.

Technical grade is the standard commercial form, with purity levels typically at 99% and above. Packaging options generally include drums and bulk quantities suited to industrial-scale procurement.
