Overview
Vanadyl sulfate (CAS 27774-13-6 ), also sold as VOSO4, is an inorganic vanadium(IV) salt used as a catalyst precursor and active vanadium source across industrial and specialty chemical applications.
It delivers a stable, water-soluble form of vanadium that can be incorporated into catalyst systems, electrochemical processes, and specialty formulations without the handling complexity of other vanadium compounds.
In catalyst manufacturing, vanadyl sulfate serves as a precursor for preparing supported vanadium oxide catalysts used in oxidation and sulfuric acid production processes.
Vanadium redox flow battery (VRFB) electrolyte preparation represents a growing procurement segment, where VOSO4 is used to produce or condition the vanadium electrolyte solution.
In mining and hydrometallurgy, it appears in vanadium recovery and refining workflows as a process intermediate. Pharmaceutical and nutraceutical manufacturers also source this compound.
It is used as the active ingredient in vanadium-based dietary supplement formulations targeting metabolic support research. Vanadyl sulfate is available as a blue crystalline powder or as a hydrated solid.
It is most commonly found in the pentahydrate form (VOSO4·5H2O). Technical and reagent grades are standard across the market, with high-purity grades available for pharmaceutical and battery electrolyte applications.
Bulk quantities are supplied in fiber drums or bags, with smaller packaging available for laboratory and specialty use. This ensures flexibility for both large-scale industrial use and research development.
