Fluorescent Brightener 378 (CAS 40470-68-6 ), commercially known as CBS-127, is a stilbene-based optical brightening agent used to enhance the perceived whiteness and brightness of substrates.

By absorbing UV light and re-emitting it as visible blue fluorescence, it counteracts yellowing in finished materials without altering their base formulation during the manufacturing process.

In plastics and polymer processing, CBS-127 is incorporated into polyolefins, PET, and engineering resins to deliver high-whiteness aesthetics in packaging films, molded parts, and synthetic fibers.

Paper and board manufacturers apply it during coating or surface sizing to meet brightness specifications required by premium print and packaging grades for commercial use.

Textile producers use it in finishing baths for synthetic fabrics where conventional washing-based brighteners are unsuitable. Coating and adhesive formulators add it to white and near-white systems.
