Overview
Lauramidopropylbetaine (CAS 4292-10-8 ) is an amphoteric surfactant derived from lauric acid, used across personal care and cosmetic formulations for its foam-boosting, conditioning, and mildness-enhancing properties.
It is closely related to cocamidopropyl betaine but based on a defined C12 lauric acid chain, offering formulators a more consistent fatty acid profile for high-performance applications.
Procurement teams source it primarily as a liquid concentrate for rinse-off and leave-on product manufacturing. In shampoos and body washes, it boosts and stabilizes foam generated by primary anionic surfactants.
It reduces overall formulation irritation potential when used with sodium lauryl sulfate. Facial cleansers and baby wash products incorporate it where mildness is a priority for sensitive skin types.
It helps moderate the aggressiveness of stronger surfactants in the blend. It functions as a secondary surfactant in conditioning shampoos and two-in-one formulations, contributing to wet-comb feel.
Mild liquid hand soaps and intimate hygiene products also use it to balance cleansing performance with skin compatibility. Lauramidopropylbetaine is supplied as an aqueous liquid, typically at 30–35% active content.
It is available in cosmetic-grade and COSMOS-approved variants to meet clean beauty and certified natural formulation requirements. Bulk supply is standard in drums and IBC containers.
