Dimorpholinomethane

CAS: 5625-90-1

Overview

Dimorpholinomethane (CAS 5625-90-1 ), also known as 4,4-Methylenedimorpholine, is a morpholine-derived amine used industrially as a biocide and corrosion inhibitor. It functions by releasing formaldehyde slowly under use conditions.

This mechanism provides controlled antimicrobial and metal-protection activity across various aqueous systems. In metalworking fluids, it acts as a formaldehyde-releaser biocide to control bacterial and fungal growth.

It is commonly used in water-miscible cutting and grinding fluids to extend fluid service life. Water treatment formulations incorporate it to suppress microbial fouling in recirculating cooling systems and process water.

Coatings, adhesives, and sealant systems use it as a preservation agent to prevent microbial degradation during storage. This helps avoid in-can spoilage and maintains the integrity of the chemical formulations.

Textile processing and leather finishing operations also rely on it for antimicrobial protection. It is effective in aqueous process baths and for the long-term protection of finished industrial goods.

The product is supplied as a liquid, typically at concentrations around 80% active content in aqueous solution. Technical grade is the standard commercial offering for industrial biocide requirements.

It is aligned with metalworking fluid formulation standards and industrial safety protocols. Packaging ranges from drums to intermediate bulk containers, reflecting its primary use in large-volume applications.
