Overview
Methanol (CAS 67-56-1 ), also known as wood alcohol or wood naphtha, is a primary alcohol produced at industrial scale and used as a solvent, chemical feedstock, and fuel component across multiple sectors.
Its role spans from direct process solvent applications to serving as the foundational building block for downstream chemical synthesis. In the petrochemical and energy sectors, it is blended into fuel formulations.
Methanol is used as a feedstock for producing dimethyl ether and other fuel additives. Pharmaceutical manufacturers rely on it as a process solvent for API synthesis, extraction, and chromatography-scale purification.
In plastics and polymers, it drives the production of formaldehyde, acetic acid, and methyl methacrylate. These intermediates feed directly into resin and polymer manufacturing for various industrial applications.
Printing and packaging operations use methanol-based solvent systems in ink formulations where fast evaporation and resin compatibility are process requirements. This ensures high efficiency in high-speed production lines.
