Overview
Methylamine (CAS 74-89-5 ), also referenced industrially as MeNH2, is a primary aliphatic amine supplied as a compressed gas or aqueous solution. It functions as a reactive building block and chemical intermediate across pharmaceutical synthesis.
This versatile chemical is essential for agrochemical production and polymer manufacturing. In pharmaceutical manufacturing, it is a critical precursor for active ingredients including analgesics, antivirals, and central nervous system compounds.
Agrochemical producers use it to synthesize herbicides, fungicides, and pesticide intermediates at commercial scale. In polymer and resin chemistry, it acts as a chain initiator and modifier for industrial processes.
The compound contributes to the production of ion exchange resins and specialty coatings. Textile and leather processing operations use methylamine-based formulations for pH regulation and as a carrier in dyeing and tanning processes.
Methylamine is commercially available as an anhydrous liquefied gas in pressurized cylinders and as aqueous solutions, typically at 40% concentration. Technical grade is the standard for industrial synthesis applications.
Higher-purity grades are available to meet pharmaceutical intermediate specifications. Packaging ranges from small cylinders for laboratory and formulation use to bulk supply for large-scale chemical manufacturing.
