Overview
Ethylamine (CAS 75-04-7 ), also recognized by its FEMA 4236 designation in flavor applications, is a primary aliphatic amine supplied as an aqueous solution or anhydrous gas.
It functions as a reactive intermediate and pH modifier across pharmaceutical synthesis, polymer processing, and food flavoring. In pharmaceutical manufacturing, it serves as a building block for active ingredients.
It acts as a neutralizing agent during API synthesis. Polymer producers use it as a curing and cross-linking agent in resin systems, including flame-retardant formulations where nitrogen content contributes to char-forming mechanisms.
In food and flavor applications, ethylamine is approved as a flavoring agent, contributing to characteristic notes in processed food systems. It also functions as a stabilizer and pH buffer in specialty chemical formulations.
Controlled basicity is required during production for these specialty chemicals. Ethylamine is commercially available as an anhydrous liquefied gas and as aqueous solutions, typically at 70% concentration.
