Acrylic acid (CAS 79-10-7 ), also known as vinylformic acid and commonly abbreviated as AA, is a reactive monomer used as the foundational building block for polyacrylate synthesis across polymer and specialty chemical manufacturing.

Its ability to undergo controlled polymerization or co-polymerization makes it a primary raw material for producing superabsorbent polymers, dispersants, and coating resins. AA is the primary feedstock for superabsorbent polymers used in hygiene products.

These applications include disposable diapers and adult incontinence articles. In water treatment and detergent formulations, it is polymerized into dispersants and scale inhibitors that prevent mineral deposit buildup in industrial systems.

Acrylic acid co-polymers form the backbone of pressure-sensitive adhesives, surface coatings, and textile sizing agents where controlled adhesion and film formation are required. These materials are essential for modern industrial manufacturing.
