n-butyldiethanolamine

CAS: 102-79-4

Overview

N-Butyldiethanolamine ( CAS 102-79-4 ), commonly abbreviated as BDEA, is a tertiary alkanolamine combining both amine and hydroxyl functionality in a single molecule. It functions primarily as a pH regulator and corrosion inhibitor.

This versatile chemical serves as a vital intermediate across various industrial formulation markets. In metalworking and industrial lubricants, BDEA neutralizes acidic components in cutting fluids and coolants effectively.

This neutralization process extends fluid service life and protects both ferrous and non-ferrous metal surfaces from corrosion. Coatings formulators incorporate it as a neutralizing amine for waterborne resin systems.

In these systems, controlled basicity improves dispersion stability and film formation. In oil and gas applications, it is used in gas treating and corrosion inhibitor packages for specialized industrial needs.

It is particularly useful where a less volatile amine with dual functional groups is required. Adhesive and sealant manufacturers use BDEA as a reactive intermediate or cure modifier for processing.

These applications allow manufacturers to adjust processing characteristics and adhesion performance. BDEA is supplied as a liquid, typically at high purity levels suitable for industrial formulation needs.

Technical grade is the standard commercial offering, with purity specifications commonly at 99% or above. Drum and IBC packaging are the typical supply formats for industrial volumes in the market.

Bulk tanker quantities are also available for larger-scale procurement. The product meets rigorous industrial requirements to ensure consistent performance across all mentioned chemical applications and sectors.
