Overview
2-Diethylethanolamine (CAS 100-37-8 ), also known as DEAE, is an amino alcohol used across industrial and specialty chemical manufacturing as a pH regulator, corrosion inhibitor, and emulsifier.
Its dual amine-alcohol functionality makes it a building block for synthesizing active compounds and a direct-use additive in formulated products. In metalworking and industrial lubricants, DEAE neutralizes acidic byproducts.
This process occurs in cutting fluids and coolants, extending fluid life and protecting ferrous metal surfaces from corrosion. Water treatment programs use it to condition boiler feed water and cooling tower circuits.
By controlling pH, it reduces scale and corrosion in closed-loop systems. Coatings formulators incorporate it as a neutralizing agent for waterborne resin systems, improving dispersion stability and film formation.
This is particularly effective in architectural and industrial paints. Pharmaceutical manufacturers use it as an intermediate in the synthesis of active pharmaceutical ingredients, especially in compounds requiring an aminoethanol backbone.
2-Diethylethanolamine is supplied as a clear liquid in drum and IBC quantities, with bulk tanker options available for high-volume buyers. Technical grade is the standard offering for industrial applications.
These applications include coatings, metalworking, and water treatment. Pharmaceutical-grade material meeting USP or equivalent specifications is available for API synthesis and regulated manufacturing.
