Overview
Diethylamine (CAS 109-89-7 ), commonly abbreviated as DEA, is a secondary aliphatic amine used across pharmaceutical synthesis, agrochemical manufacturing, and specialty chemical production. It functions primarily as a chemical intermediate, pH buffer, and catalyst in the construction of more complex molecules.
In pharmaceutical manufacturing, DEA acts as a buffering agent and reaction intermediate in the synthesis of active pharmaceutical ingredients, including antihistamines and local anesthetics. Rubber and polymer producers use it as a curing accelerator and cross-linking agent.
This chemical improves processing efficiency in latex and elastomer formulations. In agrochemical production, it serves as a key intermediate for herbicide and fungicide synthesis, particularly in the manufacture of dithiocarbamate-based compounds.
Personal care formulators incorporate DEA into pH adjustment systems for creams, lotions, and hair care products where controlled alkalinity is required. Diethylamine is supplied as a colorless liquid, typically in bulk quantities via ISO tank, drum, or intermediate bulk container.
