Overview

Decabromodiphenyl ethane (CAS 84852-53-9 ), commercially known as DBDPE or Firemaster 2100, is a high-bromine-content additive flame retardant used across polymer and composite materials.

It functions by interrupting combustion at the vapor phase, enabling end products to meet stringent fire safety standards without significant compromise to mechanical performance.

In plastics and polymer compounding, DBDPE is incorporated into HIPS, ABS, and polyolefins to achieve UL 94 V-0 ratings required in electronics housings and electrical components.

The building and construction sector uses it in insulation boards, wire and cable jacketing, and roofing membranes where fire classification compliance is mandatory for safety.

DBDPE is supplied as a white to off-white powder. Technical and industrial grades are the standard commercial forms, with bromine content typically specified at approximately 82% minimum.
