2-aminophenol

CAS: 95-55-6

Overview

2-Aminophenol (CAS 95-55-6 ), also known as o-hydroxyaniline, is an aromatic amine intermediate used across dye manufacturing, pharmaceutical synthesis, and specialty chemical production.

It functions primarily as a building block for azo dyes, active pharmaceutical ingredients, and rubber antioxidants. In textile and leather dyeing, it serves as a key intermediate in the synthesis of azo and mordant dyes.

This chemical contributes to colorfast performance on natural fibers. Pharmaceutical manufacturers use it to produce benzoxazole-based APIs and other heterocyclic compounds requiring an ortho-amino-hydroxyl substitution pattern.

In personal care, it acts as an oxidative hair dye intermediate, coupling with developer agents to produce brown and auburn shades in professional and retail color formulations.

Rubber and polymer producers incorporate it into antioxidant and antiozonant compounds to extend product service life under thermal stress. It is supplied as an off-white to light tan crystalline powder.

Standard commercial grades include technical and pharmaceutical-grade material, with purity levels typically ranging from 98% to 99%+ by HPLC or titration to meet industrial requirements.

Packaging is available in multi-kilogram bags through to bulk drum quantities to suit both formulation-scale and industrial procurement volumes for global distribution and logistics.
