2-Methyltetrahydrofuran (CAS 96-47-9 ), commonly abbreviated as 2-MeTHF, is a cyclic ether solvent derived from renewable feedstocks such as furfural. It functions as a direct replacement for tetrahydrofuran in synthesis and extraction processes.
This solvent offers improved water immiscibility and a higher boiling point compared to traditional alternatives. In pharmaceutical manufacturing, it is used as a reaction solvent for Grignard reactions and organolithium chemistry.
