This chemical serves as a building block for UV absorbers and antioxidants. PTBP is a key monomer in the production of para-tert-butylphenol-formaldehyde resins, which are used as tackifiers in neoprene-based contact adhesives.

These resins also act as bonding agents for rubber and leather. In coatings and lubricant additive manufacturing, it serves as a precursor to antioxidants and extreme-pressure additive packages for industrial use.

Fragrance compounders use PTBP (FEMA 3918 ) as a phenolic modifier to impart leather, floral, and animalic nuances. It is utilized in both fine fragrance and functional fragrance applications globally.

In UV stabilizer production, it acts as a starting material for benzophenone-type absorbers used in plastics and personal care formulations. This versatility makes it a staple in the specialty chemical sector.
