Ethyl vanillin

CAS: 121-32-4

Overview

Ethyl vanillin (CAS 121-32-4 ), also known by FEMA 2464 , is a synthetic flavoring aldehyde approximately three times more potent than natural vanillin. It delivers a rich, creamy vanilla character at lower use rates.

This potency makes it a cost-efficient choice for flavor and fragrance formulation across food, beverage, and personal care markets. In food and beverage manufacturing, it is used to flavor chocolate and confectionery.

It is also ideal for baked goods, dairy products, and beverages where consistent vanilla intensity is required regardless of natural supply variability. Fragrance houses incorporate it into fine fragrances and body care.

It serves as a fixative base note that extends longevity in finished formulations for home scent products. In printing inks and coatings, it functions as a UV stabilizer and antioxidant additive for protection.

This helps protect colorants and substrates from photodegradation during processing and end use. Personal care formulators also use it as a masking and scent-boosting agent in creams, lotions, and hair care products.

The product is supplied as a white to off-white crystalline powder. Standard commercial grades include food-grade material meeting FCC and FEMA specifications for high-quality manufacturing needs.

Pharmaceutical-grade material is also available to USP or BP standards where purity requirements are more stringent. Packaging typically ranges from kilogram quantities up to bulk drum supply.
