Overview

Sodium ferric EDDHA (CAS 16455-61-1 ), commonly supplied and sourced as Fe-EDDHA or EDDHA Iron Chelate, is a chelated iron micronutrient used to correct and prevent iron deficiency in crops.

Unlike simpler iron salts, it maintains iron availability across a wide soil pH range, making it the preferred choice for alkaline and calcareous soils where other iron sources fail to perform.

Fe-EDDHA is the standard corrective treatment for iron chlorosis in high-value crops including citrus, grapevines, stone fruits, and ornamentals, applied via soil drench or fertigation systems.

In greenhouse and hydroponic production, it supplies stable, plant-available iron throughout the growth cycle without precipitation at elevated pH levels during the cultivation process.

Turf management programs use it to maintain color and density in alkaline-soil sports fields and golf courses. Formulators of soluble fertilizer blends incorporate it as the primary iron source.

This is especially critical where soil pH or water hardness would compromise alternative chelates. Sodium ferric EDDHA is supplied as a dark red-brown granular or microgranular solid material.

Iron content is typically expressed as a percentage of total and ortho-ortho chelated iron fraction. Standard commercial grades are defined by total Fe% and solubility specifications.

These grades are aligned with EU fertilizer regulations. Technical and agronomic grades are available, with ortho-ortho fractions ranging from 1.6% to 6% Fe depending on application requirements.
