Methyl nadic anhydride

CAS: 25134-21-8

Overview

Methyl nadic anhydride ( CAS 25134-21-8 ), also known as nadic methyl anhydride or MNA, is a cycloaliphatic anhydride used as a curing agent and reactive intermediate in high-performance polymer systems.

It delivers thermally stable, chemically resistant cured networks suited to demanding structural and electrical applications. In epoxy resin formulations for aerospace and automotive composites, MNA produces cured systems.

These systems feature high glass transition temperatures and long pot life, which are critical for large-part processing. Electronics manufacturers use it to encapsulate and pot components where dimensional stability is required.

In electrical laminates and printed circuit board resins, MNA contributes to low dielectric loss and resistance to moisture uptake. Adhesive and sealant formulators incorporate it into systems requiring flexibility.

This is particularly useful where cycloaliphatic chemistry improves UV stability over aromatic alternatives. Methyl nadic anhydride is supplied as a low-viscosity liquid, facilitating direct blending with liquid epoxy systems.

It is available in technical and industrial grades, with purity levels typically specified at 95% or higher. Standard packaging ranges from drums to intermediate bulk containers for high-volume compounders.
