Iodopropynyl butylcarbamate

CAS: 55406-53-6

Overview

Iodopropynyl butylcarbamate (CAS 55406-53-6 ), commonly known as IPBC or iodocarb, is a broad-spectrum fungicide and bactericide used as a preservative across industrial and personal care formulations.

It delivers effective protection against mold, mildew, and wood-rotting fungi at low use concentrations, making it a practical active ingredient for formulators managing microbial spoilage.

In architectural and industrial coatings, IPBC prevents fungal degradation of paint films, particularly in exterior wood coatings and emulsion paints where mildew resistance is a key performance requirement.

Wet-state and dry-film preservation of adhesives, sealants, and construction materials such as caulks and jointing compounds represents another significant use case for this chemical.

Textile and leather processors incorporate it into treatment baths to protect finished goods from fungal attack during storage and transit. In personal care products, it is used as a preservative booster.

IPBC is supplied as a white to off-white crystalline powder and in liquid concentrate form, often pre-dissolved in glycol carriers for easier incorporation into various manufacturing processes.

Standard technical grades are available at 98%+ purity, with cosmetic-grade material meeting relevant regulatory specifications for personal care use. Packaging ranges from small drums to bulk quantities.
