Overview
Sertraline hydrochloride (CAS 79559-97-0 ), commonly referenced as sertraline HCl in pharmaceutical procurement, is the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) form of sertraline.
It is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) used in the manufacture of finished oral dosage forms. It is sourced by drug manufacturers and generic pharmaceutical producers.
The primary application is in the manufacture of oral solid dosage forms, including film-coated tablets and capsules, where sertraline HCl is the API at specified therapeutic concentrations.
Generic pharmaceutical manufacturers source it to produce bioequivalent products following patent expiry of the originator brand. CDMOs use it in formulation development projects.
Regulatory submissions for finished drug products in major markets require sertraline HCl to meet pharmacopoeial or ICH-aligned specifications for safety and efficacy.
Sertraline hydrochloride is supplied as a white to off-white crystalline powder. It is available in USP and Ph.Eur. grades, with documentation packages including CoA and DMF.
The material is provided with GMP certification to support regulatory filings. Quantities range from research-scale to multi-kilogram commercial batches depending on supplier capability.
